Most common cone beam examination targets
Inflammation
Cone beam examination significantly improves the detection of dental inflammations. The clinical symptoms of dental infections are often vague. In conventional X-ray examinations, approximately one third of root infections go undetected. A cone beam examination reveals even small inflammations in the teeth at an early stage and treatment can be started without delay.
Dental implant surgery
A cone beam examination can accurately determine the size and shape of the jaw bone in the area to be implanted. It is also possible to evaluate the fusion of bone grafts and possible implant malpositions by using a cone beam examination. The cone beam examination is an important support in the planning of dental implant treatment and the implementation of the operation.
Wisdom tooth surgery
The anatomy of the roots of wisdom teeth and their relationship to the nerve canal, for example, can be investigated by using cone beam imaging. A cone beam examination can facilitate the planning of wisdom tooth surgery by anticipating possible difficulties during surgery, which increases the safety of the surgery.
Unerupted teeth
The location of unerupted teeth on the arch and the relationship to other teeth can be reliably assessed with a cone beam examination.
Dental cysts and tumours
The size of the tissue alteration and its relationship to surrounding structures can be accurately assessed by cone beam examination, which helps in the planning of the surgical operation and the compilation of the diagnosis.
Root canal treatments
A cone beam examination can be used to investigate tooth-related inflammatory changes and the shape of the root canals. This is sometimes necessary for teeth with challenging anatomy or treatment-resistant dental infections. For example, a cone-beam examination can also be helpful in the planning of a multi-root tooth root-end surgery. A cone beam examination can also reliably detect other abnormal changes in the roots.
