Remote consultations are more affordable than face-to-face doctor visits and save time. The fee may be higher or lower than the stated price if multiple separate issues are addressed during the consultation or if, after assessing the need for care, you are referred to a physical appointment.
The Digital Clinic provides help for various symptoms. The physician's remote consultation addresses symptoms and illnesses that do not require a physical examination.
No appointment is needed for the Digital Clinic. Our remote doctors are on duty every day from 6 AM to midnight. The first available doctor will attend to you. We respond to your message as soon as possible – often within minutes.
The doctor will ask you clarifying questions to get a comprehensive understanding of your situation. If necessary, the doctor may ask you to send images to support the diagnosis and treatment instructions. The doctor always evaluates whether a physical examination is needed and, if necessary, refers you to a traditional appointment.
Feel free to contact us. The doctor will refer you to a traditional appointment if your issue requires an in-person evaluation.
Yes. The Digital Clinic is an excellent option for managing children's illnesses without having to take a sick child to the doctor. Remote consultations address children's illnesses that do not require a physical examination, such as cold symptoms, eye infections, rashes, and insect bites.
When starting a conversation with a doctor, select your child's name from the menu. If the name is not visible, press "Add Family Member" and enter your child's personal identity code. If your child is under 12 years old, you can start the Digital Clinic conversation immediately. For children aged 12–17, creating a family connection (and acting on behalf of the child at the Digital Clinic) requires filling out a consent form at a Mehiläinen location together with the child. During the visit, both the parent's and the child's identities are verified, and both sign the consent form. The consent is valid until the child turns 18. Identification visits at Mehiläinen are legally required at ages 12 and 15. However, newborns cannot be added to the family profile. Usually, the connection can be made 1–3 months after the child's birth.
Ongoing conversations are directly visible on the Digital Clinic's homepage under "Open Messages." By selecting the open conversation, you can return to it.
Using the Digital Clinic is safe. Logging into OmaMehiläinen requires strong authentication, such as online banking credentials. All Digital Clinic doctors and nurses are authorized to practice by the National Supervisory Authority for Welfare and Health (Valvira). Doctors always log into the patient information and operating system with their personal authentication card.
The OmaMehiläinen app does not store any information on your device but displays data directly from Mehiläinen's patient database using a unique customer identifier.
The Digital Clinic is included in most occupational health agreements. The service automatically recognizes occupational health agreements that include access to the Digital Clinic. Welcome to the consultation!
A remote physician can prescribe short-term sick leaves. However, check whether your employer accepts sick leaves prescribed via the Digital Clinic. At some workplaces, an employee's own notification to their supervisor is sufficient for a few days of sick leave.
The sick leave certificate will appear in the "Events" view on the Home screen, linked to the visit during which the sick leave was prescribed. Additionally, the certificate will also be available in the "Documents" tab of the Occupational Health view. The Occupational Health view contains other useful information related to your occupational health agreement. The certificate can be printed, saved, or sent electronically by clicking the PDF link under the "Sick Leave" heading.
There must always be a medical reason for renewing a prescription. Briefly describe the condition for which the medication was originally prescribed and your current health status. A description like "Medication is running out" does not provide the doctor with enough information to renew the prescription—in such cases, the doctor will request additional information by opening a discussion on the Digital Clinic. The renewal fee for a prescription is 49 € after the Kela reimbursement.
If, for any reason, the doctor cannot renew the prescription remotely, you will be directed to a traditional appointment or to your attending physician. In such cases, no fee will be charged for the Digital Clinic visit.
Medications that primarily affect the central nervous system (CNS) or those with potential for misuse are not renewed or prescribed during remote consultations. Additionally, medications that are medically controversial, such as liothyronine, are not prescribed on the Digital Clinic.
The prescription renewal service only allows the renewal of valid prescriptions visible in OmaMehiläinen. If you have a prescription issued elsewhere that you wish to renew, start a new discussion. The doctor will assess the need for a prescription based on the discussion. If you are paying for the visit yourself, the service fee is 49 € after the Kela reimbursement.
Visits to a Digital Clinic physician are eligible for Kela reimbursement. Remote consultations with a physician are also more affordable than traditional in-person visits. Adding or removing your Kela card can be done through the "My Information" section in OmaMehiläinen.
For occupational health clients, the bill is sent directly to the employer, making the visit free for you. Your payment card details are requested during your first visit if you are paying for the visit yourself. Afterward, you can start discussions directly, and the charge will be made to the card visible in the "My Information" tab. You will receive a receipt via email once the charge has been made. You can check your email address in the "My Information" tab of OmaMehiläinen.
You can also pay an open invoice through the "Invoices" section in OmaMehiläinen. Contact our customer service by phone or through the Digital Clinic’s customer service channel if the email address in OmaMehiläinen is no longer in use and the receipt was sent to an old address. Receipts for visits can also be saved from the "Invoices" tab.
The Digital Clinic can handle many issues. If the issues are clearly related to different illnesses (e.g., eye symptoms and back pain), the doctor may charge for multiple visits.
Most medical expense insurances also cover remote physician visits. You can check the exact terms in your insurance policy. Before starting a Digital Clinic visit, fill in your insurance company details in the "My Information" section of OmaMehiläinen (OmaMehiläinen > Me > My Information > Insurance Company).
If you are an If medical expense insurance customer, you only pay the possible deductible for the Digital Clinic physician visit, and Mehiläinen will handle the reimbursement claim directly with the insurance company (remember to mark If as your insurance company in "My Information" before starting the visit). If your insurance is with another company, you can claim reimbursement for the Digital Clinic visit from your insurance company afterward. The receipt for the Digital Clinic visit will be sent to the email address provided in "My Information."
The doctor will agree with you on how to receive the laboratory test results. There are several options:
For private clients, laboratory tests are billed directly to the credit card along with the remote consultation.
