• What do laboratory tests reveal?

  Laboratory tests provide information about the state of various body functions, such as blood sugar, cholesterol levels, and inflammation markers, helping to diagnose and monitor diseases.

• Do I need to fast before laboratory tests?

  Unless otherwise agreed with your doctor, you can eat and drink lightly before sampling and take any necessary medications.

  Generally, you do not need to fast before sampling. In exceptional cases, laboratory tests are conducted on a fasting sample in the morning after an overnight fast. In such cases, you should not eat or drink for 8–12 hours before sampling.

• Where can I see the laboratory results?

  You can view some of the test results in the OmaMehiläinen app. To interpret the results, it is advisable to contact the referring practitioner through a callback request or by booking an appointment.

• What is the cost of laboratory tests?

  The cost of laboratory tests varies depending on the type and scope of the test. You can find more detailed prices on our price list page or by asking directly at the laboratory.

• How can I renew a laboratory referral?

  You can renew a laboratory referral through your attending physician.

  If necessary, you can also book an appointment with another practitioner or contact a doctor through the Digital Clinic.

• Can I first visit the laboratory to give a sample and only then book an appointment for a consultation?

  Yes, you can first visit the laboratory to give a sample and book an appointment for a consultation later.

  If you are paying for the test yourself, you may not necessarily need a referral from a physician.

  However, please note that without a referral, you will not receive Kela reimbursements, and the insurance company will not cover the costs.

  When you arrive at the laboratory, inform them of the tests you want to be conducted.

  You can find your open referrals by logging in to the OmaMehiläinen service or by using the OmaMehiläinen app.
