Autokeskus Oy – comprehensive occupational health services and preventive measures are an investment in personnel and business
Autokeskus Oy, a fully Finnish-owned, full-service car dealership chain owned by Aro-Yhtymä, has chosen Mehiläinen as its strategic partner to support the work ability and well-being of its personnel. At the core of this collaboration is the understanding that by investing in preventive measures, as well as the timeliness and appropriateness of care, significant savings can be achieved while strengthening the employer brand.
Autokeskus Oy as a company
Autokeskus Oy is a full-service car dealership chain operating in eight locations in Southern Finland. Our services include the sale of new and used cars, authorized maintenance services, damage repairs for all car brands, as well as tire, windshield, and spare parts services.
We employ approximately 470 professionals, the largest group being car mechanics. Other key personnel groups include car salespeople, technical white-collar employees, and professionals in customer service and administration. Our operations are strongly based on our Finnish roots, which is indicated by the Key Flag symbol awarded by the Association for Finnish Work. Furthermore, we have been awarded the highest Platinum credit rating by Asiakastieto from 2016 to 2025, which is a testament to our excellent financial stability.
The work ability and well-being of your employees play a significant role. What does this mean in your company and how is it reflected in daily life?
Our fundamental value is mutual respect – every employee is the most important person in our company. This value is made concrete in many ways in our daily work. The foundation for work ability and well-being consists of good working conditions, high-quality tools, competent leadership, and opportunities for professional development.
We work in close cooperation with our occupational health care provider and pension insurance company, and we train our supervisors in work ability management. We actively utilize various means of supporting work ability, such as the early support model, partial sickness allowance, and alternative or light-duty work. Additionally, we support our personnel's well-being with a variety of employee benefits, such as lunch, sports, culture, massage, and bicycle benefits.
How has Mehiläinen's support as an occupational health partner been visible to business management and HR, or to supervisors and individuals?
Mehiläinen's comprehensive and diverse network ensures that we receive the services we need flexibly, from both the employee's and the employer's perspective. The collaboration between HR and Mehiläinen is close, and low-threshold communication with the account manager and coordinating team is regular. Monthly work ability meetings and the data produced by the Work Ability Compass (Työkykykompassi) help all parties stay up to date. Feedback and development suggestions have been well received by Mehiläinen, and the implementation of individual solutions has also been successful, largely according to our wishes.
Supervisors actively use the Supervisor Compass (Esihenkilökompassi), through which they can communicate directly with the designated team at their own location. Requests for occupational health negotiations and reminders, for example about early support discussions, are conveniently handled through the system. The Compass also reminds supervisors to stay in touch with team members on longer sick leaves.
For business management, Mehiläinen is a strategic partner that improves personnel commitment, strengthens the employer brand, and reduces business risks. The partnership is also reflected in high-quality data that supports decision-making and helps to target measures correctly.
Autokeskus Oy provides its employees with comprehensive occupational health services. How do you see the significance of these services from the perspective of work ability and well-being?
Providing comprehensive occupational health services is seen by us, above all, as an investment in supporting an employee's work ability. We do not believe that cutting back on occupational health services would automatically lead to savings; instead, the costs would likely shift to those arising from, for example, reduced work ability or sickness absences. It is considerably more expensive if an employee has to wait for months to get examinations in the public sector when the necessary care would be available immediately through occupational health.
We believe that by providing comprehensive occupational health services and examinations, we can offer the employee the support they need for their work ability in a timely and needs-based manner, enabling a faster return to work.
By focusing occupational health services on matters related to work ability, we ensure that investments are targeted correctly. Especially with preventive work and modern treatment recommendations and methods, we can effectively take care of an employee's work ability throughout their career and prevent, for example, long sickness absences. On-site guidance makes instructions concrete and easy to adopt. We also want to convey the feeling that the well-being of the individual is a priority for our company and that every employee is important.
