There can be many different factors behind infertility that relate to the fertility of the woman, the man, or both. Sometimes a clear cause can be found, but a single cause cannot always be identified. Therefore, it is important to look at the situation as a whole.
The First appointment provides an opportunity to get a specialist’s view on the situation and to better understand what options are available. At the same time, you will receive information about which examinations or treatments may be current in your situation. Even when the cause of infertility is not clearly known, a suitable way forward can be planned.

At an infertility specialist’s appointment, factors affecting fertility can be assessed and necessary examinations planned, as well as a gynaecological examination and an ultrasound scan performed if necessary. If you are not sure which appointment is suitable for you, a nurse's first appointment can be a good way to start.
Yes. You can come to the first appointment alone or together with a partner. During the appointment, your specific situation and wishes will be reviewed. If fertility-related factors need to be investigated for both, examinations can also be planned for the partner. The causes are often multifactorial, and therefore it is recommended to arrive together for the first appointment.
Yes. You can seek examinations earlier if you are concerned about fertility or wish for a pregnancy later. At the appointment, an assessment is performed on whether examinations are topical for you specifically.
Examinations can be started soon after the first appointment. The schedule depends, for example, on the menstrual cycle and on what examinations are needed. At the first appointment, it will be agreed with you how to proceed in practice.
