A time lapse microscope is a camera placed in a cell culture incubator that takes pictures of embryos at regular intervals. The pictures taken by the camera create a video showing the stages of early embryo development. Each embryo is cultured in its own well, and it is possible to monitor the development of each embryo separately.
With the time lapse microscope, the division rhythm of the embryos can be observed. The morphological features of the embryos, i.e. characteristics related to their appearance, are also clearly visible at all stages of development. Based on these embryo characteristics, the likelihood of pregnancy starting during the treatment is predicted.
Normally, the embryo first divides into two cells, soon after into four cells, eight cells, and so on. However, the division schedule of the embryo's cells varies, and their morphological features are different.
