An embryoscope is a special cell culture incubator with a built-in camera. The camera takes pictures of the embryos regularly. The pictures form a video of the early developmental stages of the embryo. Each embryo is cultured in its own well in the embryoscope, so its development can be monitored individually.
The embryoscope provides embryos with stable and ideal growth conditions. Embryos do not need to be moved out of the incubator for examination. They are thus able to develop undisturbed at the correct temperature and gas concentration. This reduces embryo stress and supports its normal division, which improves the chances of pregnancy.
Using the camera, the specialist can see precisely the division rhythm of the embryo and its morphological features, i.e. structural characteristics. There are individual differences in the development of embryos. Continuous and detailed follow-up helps select precisely the embryo for transfer that has the best prognosis for the onset of pregnancy.
