I am a specialist in addiction medicine and general medicine. My areas of expertise include medical driving licence statements by an addiction medicine specialist, as well as the assessment and treatment of alcohol-related problems and sedative medications. I provide addiction medicine medical statements and driving ability assessments in situations required by the police, and I assist my patients with matters related to obtaining, maintaining, and restoring driving privileges. I also offer my specialist expertise in addiction medicine via remote consultations throughout Finland.
For me, the most important thing is to meet each patient as an individual. I carefully assess the situation and plan treatment while listening to the patient’s wishes. My goal is to provide a clear and life-situation-appropriate treatment plan.
In addition to substance use problems, I am an experienced specialist in general medicine and treat both acute and long-term health problems. I have accumulated work experience in addition to primary care in emergency care, internal medicine, psychiatry, and The Finnish Defence Forces. I assess and treat, among other things, respiratory infections, musculoskeletal pain conditions, headaches, sleep problems, and I also perform minor procedures such as joint injections, wound suturing, partial nail removals, and removal of skin lesions.
You can also get help from my practice with issues related to mental wellbeing and attention disorders. I carry out annual follow-ups and medication assessments for ADHD treatment when a diagnosis has already been established. In my work, I emphasize safety, cooperation with the patient, and a holistic understanding of their situation.
I provide various medical certificates, health examinations, and driving-related health assessments. During my consultation, within the available time, you can also address multiple health issues in a single visit, which makes the process as efficient and effortless as possible.

FAQ / Frequently asked questions about substance-related driving licence medical statements
What does a substance-related driving licence medical statement cost?
The price of a substance-related driving licence statement consists of a doctor’s appointment, laboratory tests to be taken, the written statement, and outpatient clinic and Kanta fees. The typical price of the statement is approximately €800–€1000. For a more precise price estimate, please contact customer service at tel. +358 10 414 00.
Can I receive a substance-related driving licence statement at the first appointment?
Yes, you can. This is possible under certain conditions if you have recently undergone substance monitoring elsewhere, for example in primary healthcare or at RISE. For a more accurate assessment, it is recommended to bring any background material to the appointment, such as a list of previous test results or evaluations.
How long is laboratory monitoring required for a substance-related driving licence statement?
According to recommendations, a substance use assessment ordered by the police should generally not exceed three months. The duration of the assessment is largely influenced by the reasons for the evaluation. Therefore, it is advisable to present the police letter stating the grounds for the assessment to the physician.
What laboratory tests are required?
In a substance-related driving licence statement, an assessment is made as to whether the patient has a level of substance use that would, under the Road Traffic Act, be an obstacle to driving entitlement. In most cases, a P-PEth blood test is required to assess possible alcohol use. In addition, drug screening may be included to exclude other substances affecting driving fitness.
When can a driving licence be reinstated?
A statement for the reinstatement of driving rights can be issued when the addiction medicine specialist is able to assess that the patient does not have a substance use problem that endangers traffic safety.
What does a physician specialized in substance-related medicine mean?
In practice, this refers to a physician who is familiar with the principles of substance use assessment. A physician with a special qualification in addiction medicine is able to assess the patient’s situation in a comprehensive and patient-centered way. At the same time, an addiction medicine specialist is also able to treat possible dependencies and thereby support the fastest possible reinstatement of driving privileges.
