Mehiläinen Group expands to Norway and Denmark and strengthens its position in Sweden through the acquisition of Aleris

Press release, 18 May 2026
The Finnish healthcare and social care provider Mehiläinen has signed an agreement to acquire Aleris, a leading specialist healthcare provider in the Nordic countries. Through the acquisition, Mehiläinen will complement its services in Sweden and expand into new markets through Aleris’ operations in Norway and Denmark. Together the companies have exceptional capabilities to improve access to high-quality care and support the development of healthcare systems in the Nordic countries. The completion of the acquisition is subject to regulatory approvals.
Aleris operates in Denmark, Norway and Sweden with around 100 clinics and hospitals, employing 5,300 professionals and delivering over 3.8 million patient visits annually. It serves all payer groups and has longstanding partnerships with both public healthcare regions and private insurers.
Through the acquisition, Aleris will join Mehiläinen Group, which was founded in 1909 in Helsinki, Finland. Today, Mehiläinen has over 100 years of experience as a private provider of patient-centred healthcare services. In Sweden, the company has operated since 2020 under the Meliva brand, serving more than 170,000 registered primary care patients and offering outpatient specialist care and day surgery. The acquisition marks a significant step in Mehiläinen’s growth in Sweden and opens two new markets—Denmark and Norway.
- Aleris is uniquely positioned in Scandinavia with high patient satisfaction and quality. Together, we will have an excellent foundation to further develop specialist care, digital services, and clinical quality in our markets. Aleris and Mehiläinen share a common vision of outpatient-oriented, digitally powered, and patient-centred healthcare. By combining our capabilities, we can provide patients with even smoother integrated care pathways and contribute to improving healthcare across the region, says Janne-Olli Järvenpää, CEO of Mehiläinen Group.
- We look forward to strengthening healthcare services for more patients in the Nordic region together with Mehiläinen. Through our combined expertise, innovation, and digital capabilities, we can contribute even more to supporting and strengthening healthcare systems in our countries, while developing better solutions for patients and employees. This will allow us to further improve our offering and together create better health and well-being for more people, says Sofia Palmquist, CEO of Aleris Group.
Following the acquisition of Aleris, Mehiläinen Group will have approximately 60,000 professionals working in more than 1,500 locations, providing care annually to approximately 6 million patients with operations in 9 European countries. Together with Aleris and acquisitions closed in 2025, Mehiläinen Group's pro forma revenue was 3.7 billion euros in 2025. Mehiläinen Group is one of the leading private providers of integrated outpatient-oriented healthcare services and an innovator leveraging digital capabilities and AI in Europe.
The completion of the acquisition is subject to regulatory approvals.
