Miscarriage means the termination of a pregnancy before the 22nd week of gestation. Most miscarriages occur at an early stage, often even before the pregnancy is known. A miscarriage is always a significant event that can cause deep sorrow and concern. It is important to remember that a miscarriage is not anyone's fault, and it is often associated with many factors.
These symptoms can vary individually, and their intensity may differ.
The cause of miscarriage can be investigated with a POC examination. More than half of miscarriages are due to fetal chromosomal abnormalities, meaning there has been an error in fetal development. Other possible causes include uterine structural abnormalities or hormonal reasons.

Having one miscarriage does not usually significantly increase the likelihood of another miscarriage. However, if there have been several miscarriages, the possibility of the next pregnancy ending is higher than usual. After the third miscarriage, we speak of recurrent miscarriages, in which case the causes of the miscarriages should be investigated more thoroughly.
Often, follow-up is sufficient for miscarriage treatment. Occasionally, treatment is needed, in which case the majority of miscarriages can be managed at home with medication prescribed by a physician. Bleeding and pain can be severe, and adequate pain relief is important. After a miscarriage, it is important to attend a follow-up appointment to investigate possible causes of the miscarriage, assess the current situation, and plan necessary further actions. Post-miscarriage follow-up also ensures that the uterus has completely emptied and prevents the development of a possible uterine inflammation.
Recovering from a miscarriage is a comprehensive process that includes both physical and mental recovery. Grieving is an important part of recovery, as the future baby begins to form in one's mind immediately after a positive pregnancy test. Without sufficient grieving and support, feelings related to the miscarriage can surface later in life. A pregnancy test can still show positive after a miscarriage, as the level of pregnancy hormone (hCG) gradually decreases. Therefore, the test does not directly indicate a miscarriage.
